Internal Friction and Elastic Constants of Sintered Titanium
نویسندگان
چکیده
Using aMarx-oscillator standing-wave resonancemethod, we measuredthe internal friction &' of sintered titanium containing up to 26 volume-percent voids (c). The surprising &I-versus-c curve shape, an exponential increase, lead us to remeasure &I-versus-c by acoustic-resonance spectroscopy, which gave similar results. We hypothesized that both void shape and void size change with c. For the void shape, we confirmed this hypothesis by measuring longitundinal and transverse sound velocities vl and v, and comparing them with Mori-Tanaka model predictions. As c increases from 0 to 0.26, effective void shape changes from near spherical to oblate spheroidal with an aspect ratio near 0.05. Optical microscopy confirmed the void-size change. We outline a model based on wavescattering theory that explains the observed &'-c behavior. Increased particle size with increased c provides the dominant factor for the exponential increase.

Fabrication of porous titanium implants by three-dimensional printing and sintering at different temperatures.
This study evaluated the feasibility of using three-dimensional printing (3DP) to fabricate porous titanium implants. Titanium powder was blended with a water-soluble binder material. Green, porous, titanium implants fabricated by 3DP were sintered under protective argon atmosphere at 1,200, 1,300, or 1,400°C. Sintered implant prototypes had uniform shrinkage and no obvious shape distortion aft...

In recent years, research into materials with high dielectric constants, including doped titanium oxide, has increased because of the potential for modern microelectronics applications and high-density energy storage. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of zinc oxide as an acceptor additive on the dielectric properties and microstructure of titanium oxide ceramics. The amount o...
متن کاملIn-Situ Monitoring of Microstructure during Thermomechanical Simulations using Laser-Ultrasonics
Abstract Ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measurements are powerful tools to infer information about the microstructure and properties of metals and their alloys. To begin, elastic constants can be measured with precision as high as one part in 10. At this level of precision, changes in elastic constants caused by texture, phase transformations, and various internal friction phenomena can be...

متن کاملInternal Friction Transient Effects of Titanium Hydrogen Solid Solution
The internal friction of pure Ti between 500K and700K is constant at 10-4 when measured during a continuous increase of temperature. In opposite when the temperature is increased stepby step, each increase of 10K induces immediatly a raising up of 4 10-4 internal friction. During the following stage at the new temperature the internal friction falls slowly down to its initial value. This behavi...
